1
Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
There
are 5 ways we should live in this worldly society.
Don’t
FRET or be Envious
Trust in the LORD
Delight in the LORD
Commit your way to the LORD
Be still before the LORD (and wait Patiently for HIM)
Let’s
take a closer look at these words from GOD:
FRET – The Hebrew word used here
is HARA and it literally means to burn with Anger. GOD
is telling us not to fret because of those who are evil
and do not be Envious of them.
TRUST – The Hebrew word used here
is BATAH and it means to Trust in, be Confident in, be
Secure in. This is how we are to be in the LORD, living
in a safe, secure moral life.
DELIGHT – The Hebrew word used
here is ANAG and it means to be happy about, take exquisite
delight in the LORD. There is a promise that goes with
this. If you do this, HE will give you the desires of
your heart. It took me five years to finally realize what
this meant. It’s not what I want, but rather HE
gives us the desires that HE wants us to have. Life made
more sense when my desires were within HIS will for me.
It’s a matter of believing that GOD knows what is
best for us. Our ways are not HIS ways.
COMMIT – The Hebrew word used here
is GALAL and it means literally to Roll, to Roll Away,
or Roll Together. What does this mean? We need to roll
ourselves into GODS hands. Let HIM be in charge of our
life. And it goes hand and hand with the next word.
BE STILL – The Hebrew word used
here is DAMAM and it means to stop, be inactive, or to
be silent. We need to patiently wait on the LORD. His
timing is always the best.
And
then HE reminds us to Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who
hope in the LORD will inherit the land (verses 8 & 9)
Selah
–pause and think about this. To HIM be the honor and
glory - Amen
