“A
farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the
seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate
it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have
much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.
But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and
they withered because they had no root. Other
seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a
crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:
When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does
not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away
what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along
the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone
who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But
since they have no root, they last only a short time. When
trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly
fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone
who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the
deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.
But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who
hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces
a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was
sown.”
This is one of the parables that JESUS gave in which HE
also gave the meaning. So what do we learn from it? The
farmer is GOD and the seed is the spoken WORD (JESUS). Who,
then, are we? We are the DIRT!
What kind of dirt are you? There is the hard Ground (the
path); there is the rocky ground (shallow dirt); there is
the dirt full of thorns; and there is good dirt. If we are
not good dirt, how do we become good dirt? WE, being dirt
can’t make ourselves good dirt. It’s up to the
farmer (GOD) to make us good dirt. He nurtures the dirt
by turning it over, adding nutrients and water (water represents
the SPIRIT), and caring for it. GOD loves us and wants us
to be good dirt so that the seed (JESUS) can grow and produce
an abundant harvest. It’s His work in our lives that
does this. We are the place where He can do His work.
Are we hard (close minded to His will)?
Let Him turn us over and loosen our thinking, making us
open minded to His ways.
Are
we shallow?
Let GOD deepen our conviction in the Truth and let us be
free from the pressures of the world.
Are we full of thorns?
Let GOD remove the worries of this life and the deceitfulness
of world.
Then we can become the dirt He wants us to be, one who produces
a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was
sown.
We
need to give our life to HIM. All of our life, not just
part of it! And we need to, by FAITH, trust that He will
do what is best for us.
For we know that in all things God works for the good of
those who love him, who have been called according to his
purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever
you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the
testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance
finish its work so that you may be mature and complete,
not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4 NIV)
We can become GOOD DIRT, if we let GOD have our life!
