BE
STILL means to cease from action, to be idle, to be inactive.
When
you tell your child to be still, you are telling him to
stop what he is doing. You want him to relax and be inactive.
This is what GOD is telling us. He wants us to stop and
not do anything; to be inactive or dead to ourselves and
to whatever the issue is in our life is.
And He wants us to KNOW that He is GOD.
So what does it mean to KNOW?
To
know something is to understand or to experience it. You
can read the drivers manual on how to drive a car, but you
don’t really KNOW how to drive a car until you get
behind the wheel and experience driving the car. The reality
of knowing something is to experience it. GOD is telling
us to experience Him; to KNOW who He is.
This
verse comes at end of Psalm 46, in which GOD is declaring
that HE is our Fortress. He is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble, therefore we are not to
fear or to worry. He is in control.
So
stop fretting and worrying about your situation. Be STILL
and KNOW that the GREAT I AM is in full control. Verse 11
says it all. The LORD of hosts is with us; the GOD of Jacob
is our fortress.
Selah
– pause and think about this. To HIM be the honor
and glory – Amen. |
